Financial Planning for Contractors and Freelancers
Wealth Matters specialises in working with contractors, freelancers and interim managers. We offer independent financial advice and guidance to help you make smart choices with your money.
Wealth Matters has been working with professional contractors for over 8 years. We understand the issues that you face as a contractor, including:
- Fluctuating income & cash flow issues
- Uncertainty of future contracts
- IR35 issues
- Planning for retirement/ pension contributions
- Tax implications
- The absence of sick pay (income protection), life insurance, critical illness insurance and private medical cover.
Wealth Matters can provide constructive Financial Solutions, tailored to your needs.
As a contractor, you receive no pension, no sick pay, no private medical cover and no death benefits, so you need to make your own provisions.

We have solutions to all these problems, and can help you make the most of your earnings, showing you ways to extract money from your company tax efficiently, whilst at the same time helping you to minimise your tax liabilities.
If you operate through a limited company, it is important to understand how best to minimise your income tax, national insurance payments, corporation tax and capital gains tax. However, there are many planning opportunities as a director of your own limited company.
We can help you to answer the following questions

Financial planning is ultimately just about formulating a meaningful ‘plan’ to help you meet your financial goals. This could be retiring early, or working less, saving a specific sum or over-paying your mortgage. As independent financial planners, Wealth Matters can assist in all areas of finance and give advice on: pension planning, savings and investments, inheritance tax planning, protection and all types of mortgage product.

We believe in holistic financial planning, because best advice cannot be given in isolation. For this reason, we would tend to conduct a full financial review of your current circumstances, then discuss your financial goals and finally compose a meaningful, personalised financial plan to help meet these goals.
Producing a bespoke financial plan often requires the use of sophisticated products, such as self invested personal pensions (SIPPs), the use of a WRAP Platform, flexible mortgages, off-shore planning, and clever inheritance tax planning.
Only when you have this review can you make conscious decisions as to how to move forward. Wealth Matters believes in on-going advice and building relationships with our clients, because nothing stays static - tax rules change, the markets change, products change and so it is crucial to work with a financial planner who adapts with these changes.

Wealth Matters offers a free initial appointment (1-2 hours). This could be on the phone or face to face. We always encourage our clients to come to our office to understand how we operate and to get a feel for the support and service that we offer.

“Never have I experienced such fast responding excellent customer service, particularly from an IFA. Wealth Matters are in a class of their own. I have everything now consolidated under one roof including frozen pensions, critical life cover and ISA's. Simply brilliant!"

The pension rules that became effective in April 2006 and the opportunities offered by Self Invested Personal Pensions (SIPPs) and WRAPS, provide many exciting new opportunities for contractors. Small limited companies can greatly increase individual pension contributions, without the need to increase declared salaries.
Wealth Matters re-wrote the PCG and Entier Guide to Pensions.
